Filipino Nurse Salary 2026: USA vs UK vs Saudi Arabia vs Australia

Semi-realistic cinematic editorial illustration of a Filipino registered nurse comparing four overseas career paths represented by distinct hospital environments, contracts, and currencies for the USA, UK, Saudi Arabia, and Australia, without flags, logos, or readable text.

Four Countries, Four Different Salary Numbers

The USA usually wins the biggest-number column. Saudi Arabia can change the housing-and-tax column. The UK has a public pay spine you can check before applying. Australia publishes a strong weekly median.

All four statements can be true, and they still do not tell a Filipino nurse which offer is better.

One number is an annual national median. One is an NHS pay band. One is a specific DMW recruitment package. One is a weekly occupational median. Before converting anything to pesos, you have to make the columns honest.

Jump to what you need:

This guide compares registered or staff nurses, not caregivers, nursing assistants, enrolled nurses, nurse practitioners, nurse anesthetists, travel nurses, or nurse managers. It is educational, not employment, tax, immigration, legal, licensing, or financial advice. Salary scales, tax rules, exchange rates, registration requirements, and visa routes change.

First, Make the Salary Columns Honest

Use this formula before you ask which country pays more:

Comparable monthly remainder
= guaranteed base pay
+ guaranteed cash allowances
- estimated tax and payroll deductions
- employee-paid housing and transport
- recurring insurance and registration costs
- monthly share of one-time licensing and migration costs

Then check the work behind the number.

Base salary is not the same as total salary. Overtime, night differential, weekend penalties, and bonuses should stay outside the guaranteed column unless the contract clearly states the entitlement and your expected schedule. Free accommodation can be valuable, but it is not cash you can send home. Employer superannuation or pension contributions are compensation, but not monthly take-home pay.

Most importantly, a median is not a starting offer. Half the workers in the dataset earn more and half earn less. A pay band is different again: it tells you the official steps for a defined job classification, not the cost of your particular life.

The 2026 Nurse Pay Snapshot

These are the latest clean official figures I could verify on 10 August 2026. “2026” is the comparison year. It does not mean every underlying salary survey was conducted in 2026.

DestinationOfficial benchmark or offerApproximate PHP snapshotWhat the number actually means
USAUS$93,600/year₱5.71M/year or ₱475,550/monthNational median annual wage for registered nurses, May 2024; not a guaranteed starting salary and before federal, state/local, payroll, insurance, and other deductions

The peso figures use the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas Reference Exchange Rate Bulletin for 10 August 2026: USD ₱60.9680, GBP ₱82.3190, SAR ₱16.2386, and AUD ₱43.0495. They are arithmetic conversions, not remittance quotes, forecasts, or amounts you will receive after fees.

Four official nurse pay benchmarks showing a US annual median, NHS England Band 5 annual range, a specific Saudi monthly offer, and an Australian weekly median, with a warning that the units and populations differ.

USA: Highest Published Gross, Widest Local Variation

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that registered nurses had a median annual wage of US$93,600 in May 2024. The lowest 10% earned below US$66,030, while the highest 10% earned above US$135,320 (BLS Registered Nurses).

That range is the warning. State, city, employer, specialty, experience, and shift pattern can change the number sharply. A recruiter who shows the national median has not yet shown your wage.

At the national median, the simple gross is US$7,800 per month. But 2026 employee payroll withholding generally includes 6.2% Social Security and 1.45% Medicare before federal income tax (IRS Social Security and Medicare rates). State or local income tax may apply. Health-insurance premiums, retirement contributions, parking, housing, and commuting can reduce the payslip further.

Federal tax also depends on filing status and household facts. The IRS lists a US$16,100 standard deduction for a single filer in 2026, followed by progressive rates (IRS 2026 tax adjustments). That is why there is no single U.S. nurse take-home figure here.

Licensing is state-based. Every U.S. board uses the NCLEX-RN, but requirements for an internationally educated nurse vary by state (NCSBN international nurse guidance). Choose the intended state board before paying for credential evaluation or relying on a recruiter’s checklist.

Immigration is separate. Professional nurses are in Schedule A Group I, but the employer still files the required material and the case needs applicable evidence (U.S. Department of Labor Schedule A rule). USCIS also lists RNs among occupations requiring health-care-worker certification (USCIS Form I-905 instructions). Passing NCLEX is not a job or visa approval.

UK: The Clearest Public Pay Spine

For England, the 2026/27 NHS Agenda for Change scale gives Band 5 three visible points: £32,073 entry, £34,592 intermediate, and £39,043 top, effective 1 April 2026 (NHS Employers pay scales). This is one of the easiest figures in the comparison to audit.

Band 5 progression is not an instant jump to the top. Other UK nations and private employers can differ. London-area supplements and unsocial-hours additions may apply, but only count them when the worksite and roster support them (NHS Employers unsocial hours).

For the 2026/27 tax year, the standard Personal Allowance is £12,570, after which income tax is applied by band (GOV.UK income tax rates). Standard employee National Insurance is also deducted by earnings band, including an 8% rate across the main 2026/27 band (GOV.UK National Insurance rates).

NHS Pension can also be a major payslip line. From 1 April 2026, relevant member tiers include 8.3% and 9.8% of pensionable pay (NHSBSA contribution rates). It buys scheme benefits, but is not money available for this month’s padala.

The NMC currently lists £1,170 for the standard overseas route before resits: evaluation, CBT, OSCE, and registration (NMC internationally trained applicants). Travel, English testing, documents, and preparation may be extra. Check what the employer pays in writing.

The Health and Care Worker route requires a qualifying role, approved sponsor, pay, and certificate of sponsorship (GOV.UK Health and Care Worker visa). NMC progress alone is not sponsorship.

Saudi Arabia: Read the Package, Not Only the Basic Salary

Saudi salary articles often quote an “average” without showing the hospital, contract, housing, or source. A cleaner Filipino reference is a real DMW government-placement document, but it must be labelled honestly.

The DMW Recruitment Specification Form dated 30 March 2026 advertised 500 female staff-nurse positions for the Saudi Ministry of Health. It stated a base offer starting at SAR 4,000 plus SAR 120 for each year of experience, with up to four credited years for the listed general and critical areas. Critical-area roles had an additional SAR 800 (DMW Saudi MOH recruitment form).

It also listed SAR 500 food allowance, annual increment, 31 days’ leave inclusive of annual and official holidays with a round-trip economy ticket, provided accommodation and transportation, and a two-year contract.

Because the recruitment required at least one year of relevant experience, a general-ward nurse with one credited year would reach SAR 4,620 monthly cash under those stated components: SAR 4,000 + SAR 120 + SAR 500. At the 10 August BSP rate, that is about ₱75,000. A critical-area nurse with one credited year would reach SAR 5,420, or about ₱88,000, before any other contract-specific item.

Those are derived examples from one offer, not a national range. The recruitment had specific sex, age, work-gap, and experience conditions, and its April deadline has passed.

Housing and transport may remove large expenses, but “provided” does not describe location, room-sharing, commute, or quality. Ask for the written terms; do not assign the benefit an invented peso value.

Saudi Arabia does not impose individual income tax on earnings derived only from employment (PwC Saudi individual taxes; ZATCA Income Tax). That does not mean no living costs, fees, deductions, or contract risk.

SCFHS says first-time applicants use Professional Classification through Mumaris Plus, then Professional Registration before work; classification can start abroad (SCFHS Mumaris FAQ). The DMW offer also required DataFlow. Confirm who pays and what happens if classification is delayed.

Australia: Strong Weekly Earnings, Registration First

Jobs and Skills Australia reports AUD 2,192 in median full-time weekly earnings before tax and AUD 57 median hourly earnings for registered nurses. The earnings are based on the ABS Survey of Employee Earnings and Hours from May 2025 (Jobs and Skills Australia Registered Nurses).

Annualizing it gives AUD 113,984. That is arithmetic, not a separate government quote. State, agreement, classification, experience, specialty, and shifts still matter.

For 2026/27, Australian resident rates apply 15% above the tax-free threshold to AUD 45,000, then 30% to AUD 135,000 (Australian tax-rate law). Residency, Medicare levy, and personal circumstances alter the result.

The employer super guarantee is 12% (ATO Payday Super). Check whether an advertisement says plus super or includes it in the package; super is not monthly take-home pay.

International nurses begin with the NMBA/Ahpra self-check and assigned assessment path. It may include documents, English evidence, criminal-history checks, and for some applicants NCLEX-RN and OSCE components (NMBA international practitioners).

Streamlined paths exist for eligible nurses with enough practice in approved comparable jurisdictions, but a Philippine qualification alone should not be assumed to qualify (Ahpra streamlined pathway).

RN occupations connect to skilled and employer-sponsored visa categories, but list inclusion is not an invitation, sponsorship, or grant (Home Affairs skilled occupation list).

What You Keep: A Better Formula Than Peso Conversion

Here is a hypothetical example. It is not a U.S., UK, Saudi, or Australian market claim.

Monthly comparisonOffer AOffer B
Guaranteed cash pay, converted to PHP₱200,000₱120,000
Estimated tax and payroll deductions−₱35,000₱0
Employee-paid housing and transport−₱50,000₱0, contract-provided
Monthly share of licensing/migration costs−₱10,000−₱5,000
Comparable remainder before food, family spending, and remittance fees₱105,000₱115,000

The lower cash offer leaves more in this example because the contract covers housing and transport. Change the rent, tax, family setup, or benefit quality and the result changes again.

Run this calculation with your real documents. Keep overtime and bonuses on a separate line. Add food, phone, insurance, childcare, family support, emergency savings, and remittance costs after the contract comparison. A peso conversion is only the first line, not the answer.

Licensing and Migration Are Separate Gates

A four-country nurse licensing map showing regulator and examination paths separately from employer sponsorship and visa approval.

DestinationProfessional gateEmployment or migration gate
USAIntended state board, credential requirements, NCLEX-RN, state licenseEmployer petition and applicable Schedule A, health-care-worker certification, and visa requirements
UKNMC evaluation, English evidence, CBT/OSCE where required, registrationApproved sponsor, eligible nursing role, certificate of sponsorship, Health and Care Worker visa requirements
Saudi ArabiaSCFHS classification, required verification/evaluation, professional registrationVerified employer/contract, work authorization and deployment processing; DMW job order or government-placement route where applicable
AustraliaNMBA/Ahpra self-check and assigned registration pathwayEmployer sponsorship or skilled pathway requirements, depending on the route

Do not pay the full migration chain because someone says one exam “guarantees” everything after it. Ask which body controls each gate, whose name receives the payment, whether the fee is refundable, and what official document proves completion.

Choose by Goal, Not by One Winner

A decision matrix matching nurse priorities such as gross pay, public pay transparency, employer housing, tax structure, and long-term mobility with questions to verify in each country.

If your priority is the highest published gross benchmark: start with the USA and Australia, then test the actual city, deductions, hours, and entry offer. National medians are not new-hire promises.

If your priority is a transparent public pay structure: NHS England Band 5 is the easiest baseline to audit. Then calculate tax, NI, pension, housing, and any verified shift additions.

If your priority is employer-provided housing and transport: a documented Saudi package may change your savings calculation. Inspect the quality, location, sharing rules, and replacement allowance before counting the benefit.

If your priority is no individual tax on employment salary: Saudi Arabia has the clearest advantage in this comparison. That advantage can still be weakened by a lower cash salary or missing benefits.

If your priority is long-term residence: investigate the current U.S., UK, and Australian route attached to the actual employer and your profile. Do not rank countries by a recruiter saying “PR pathway.” Saudi employment should not be presented as the same type of settlement route.

The best destination is the one where the verified contract, professional registration path, legal work route, and family budget work together.

Eight Nurse-Offer Checks Before You Say Yes

  1. Exact professional title: registered nurse, staff nurse, nursing assistant, caregiver, or another classification? A title downgrade changes pay, duties, and registration.
  2. Guaranteed basic pay: monthly, weekly, hourly, or annual? How many paid hours does it assume?
  3. Allowances and differentials: guaranteed cash, reimbursement, or conditional on shifts and receipts?
  4. Housing and transport: provided, shared, capped, deducted, or replaced by an allowance? Where is the accommodation?
  5. Overtime and roster: normal hours, rest days, night/weekend rules, on-call duty, and how overtime is approved and recorded.
  6. Insurance, pension, and super: who contributes, what comes from your payslip, and what is not immediately withdrawable?
  7. Licensing and migration costs: who pays evaluation, exams, resits, travel, registration, visa, medical, verification, and document fees? What happens if the case stops?
  8. Recruitment and contract verification: licensed agency or official route, approved job order where required, named employer and worksite, consistent salary pages, and no instruction to travel first on a tourist visa.

Compare the offer letter with the final contract. If salary, title, hours, location, or benefits change, stop and resolve the difference before signing or departing. The OFW contract substitution guide explains how to run that document comparison.

FAQ

Which country pays Filipino nurses the most in 2026?

The U.S. has the highest official gross benchmark in this four-country table at US$93,600 annual median pay, followed by Australia’s annualized weekly median. But these are medians, not guaranteed Filipino new-hire offers. The country that leaves the most usable money depends on tax, housing, hours, benefits, and the actual contract.

Is a Saudi nurse salary tax-free?

Saudi employment earnings are not subject to individual income tax under the current system. That does not make the whole package cost-free. Check housing, transport, food, insurance, licensing, deductions, and contract terms.

Is NHS Band 5 enough to live on in the UK?

There is no country-wide yes or no. Band 5 is a clear basic-pay scale, but housing and commuting vary sharply by location. Calculate from the actual worksite, tax, National Insurance, pension choice, roster, and any genuine High Cost Area or unsocial-hours payment.

Can I apply to Australia directly from the Philippines?

You can begin the official NMBA/Ahpra self-check from abroad, but the assessment path depends on your qualification and history. Philippine training alone should not be assumed to qualify for the streamlined comparable-jurisdiction pathway. Registration also does not guarantee a visa or job.

Does passing NCLEX guarantee a U.S. nursing job or visa?

No. NCLEX is part of professional licensure. State-board requirements, a real employer, health-care-worker certification, petition evidence, visa availability, and immigration approval are separate matters.

Should I convert every offer to pesos?

Convert it once for perspective, then return to the original currency. Your rent, tax, transport, and daily costs are paid in the destination currency. Your family receives a remittance rate after provider fees and exchange spread, not the BSP reference-rate arithmetic used in this article.

What Kasamako Is Building

Kasamako is building a pre-signing OFW contract checker: not a chatbot that says “looks okay,” but a guided checklist that asks whether salary, hours, job title, housing, deductions, leave, worksite, and termination terms are actually written and consistent.

For a nurse, that means separating base pay from shift-dependent income, cash from non-cash benefits, licensing from immigration, and a real job order from a salary screenshot. The tool will not decide which country you should choose or guarantee a visa. It should help you see the missing questions before your signature makes them harder to ask.
